Men's Bags - Information & Advice

By Mark Walters

Stop thinking that only feminine men can carry a bag. A briefcase is a bag and men carry those all the time. So, why is it all right for men to carry around briefcases but not other kinds of bags? The answer is that it is actually fine for men to carry other kinds of bags. What follows is a list of some of the main kinds of bags that will go well with either a suit or a more casual outfit.

Briefcase - When thinking about bags that are all right for men to carry, the most popular one is, of course, the briefcase. The briefcases that are carried around these days are not at all like the ones in the past. They are not made to look like a box and they have curved edges instead of square ones. They are still made out of leather, have buckles to keep them close, and feature a number of compartments inside that make it convenient and necessary for business men to carry.

Holdall - Whether a trip is business or pleasure, a man needs the perfect carryall. No longer relegated to bulky, beat up suitcases or stinky gym duffels, the holdall utilizes luxury leather and a modern, elegant design. For a romantic weekend getaway, or a business convention, this style bag is versatile and classic, and appropriate for any situation.

Tote - The perfect complement to a business suit is the tote. An updated take on the briefcase, the tote features a simple design but, as with the carryall, utilizes leather in its construction for a classic and business-appropriate appeal. Long shoulder straps or handles make it modernly accessible, replacing the short handles of the classic briefcase. For casual or business-casual attire, the tote adds just the right amount of stylish flair.

Messenger Bag - The messenger bag has been given an elegant makeover, but it is still reminiscent of the bags that have been carried by messengers for many decades. They are typically made out of canvas and are worn diagonally across the shoulders. The messenger bag is currently very fashionable in urban areas. There are many types of messenger bags from the more casual to the refined and stylish.

No matter what type of bag you choose, you should always pick one that reflects your own personal style. Do not be trapped in tradition especially when your individuality is screaming for something different. A bag, whether it is a briefcase, a messenger or a tote should fit your personal needs and reflect your own style. These types of bags can be found at many department stores and thanks to their popularity, you should be able to find one that suits your individual needs easily. Never get stuck again fishing around in your pockets for important pieces of paper especially when you have a great organizational tool right beside you!
